Plant Update
As of this writing the afternoon shift in Engine Plant #2 will be
taken off on April 21 of this year. This will affect 200 of our UAW
Brother and Sisters. Those with seniority will be able to bump
across the site. The others, unfortunately, will be laid off. We
hope that these individuals will be able to bump over to Engine
Plant #1 eventually.
As you have already read in the Plain Dealer and
in previous leaflets, the launch of Engine Plant #1 has now been
pushed back to late this year. Remember, the startup of Engine Plant
#1 will be dictated by automobile sales. If Ford’s new vehicles do
not sell, this start up could be pushed back even further. All we
can do at this point is hope for the best. I ask everyone who is
currently working in Engine Plant #1 to continue to do a quality
job. The future of our site rests with a successful launch of the
new Engine Plant #1 Engine Program.
The Casting Plant is still scheduled to close in
2010. We are still making every effort to keep this plant open and
viable for new work. Unfortunately it remains an uphill fight on a
slippery slope. All we can do at this point is hope for the best and
prepare for the worst.
Doug Fraser
We mourn the passing of our past President of the International
Union, Doug Fraser. Doug was a good man and a solid trade unionist.
He served as the head of U.A.W. Chrysler and later as President of
the U.A.W. International Union. Our deepest sympathy goes to his
family. He will be missed by all.
U.A.W. Local 1250 Retiree Chapter
We have a very active U.A.W. Retiree Chapter here at Local 1250. Our
Retiree meetings are the third Wednesday of every month, except
June, July and August, here at the Local Union Hall. If you are
retired and would just like to see your old friends, come on up to
one of our meetings. There is good information given and lunch is
provided free. It’s a good time for everyone. I want to take this
opportunity to thank our Retiree Chapter. They do a great job for
all of us around the Union Hall. They’re a good group of people. So
what are you waiting for? Come on down, meet your friends and attend
our next Retiree’s Meeting. See you there.
Upcoming Election
On May 5 and 6, 2008 we will be having elections of officers here at
Local 1250. I urge all of you whether retired or active to please
get out and vote. The polls will be open from 6:00 AM until 6:00 PM
on Monday, May 5, and Tuesday May 6, 2008. A Runoff Election, if
needed, will be held on Tuesday, May 13, 2008 from 6:00 AM until
6:00 Pm at the Local Union Hall. See you at the polls.
On a very sad note, I would like to extend my
deepest sympathy to the Engine Plant #2 Quality Representative Marty
Hockey and family on the loss of his son Matt. Words cannot express
our sorrow for this great loss for your family.
